Our Data  Centre

Digiweb is currently operating two data centres in Christchurch, which are supported by data centre facilities in Auckland, Ireland and the United States

Servers & SAN

All servers are IBM enterprise class systems, including state-of-the-art blade systems, with RAID disk technology to ensure that processors keep running in the event of a disk failure. Digiweb has a high availability IBM & HP SAN solutions to support its VPS clusters and Shared Virtual Hosting environment. Servers are housed in lockable 19” rack mount enclosures. The server room itself is a “room within a room” with no external walls. Entry is via a security locked door accessible only via Digiweb’s customer support department by authorized personnel.

High availability

Enterprise Virtualization technology, plus highly available Shared Storage and network infrastructure, means that Digiweb can offer truly mission critical hosting environment with minimal downtime. Our VPS platform can survive the loss of an entire Data Centre without any interruption to service.

Internet connectivity

Internet connectivity is provided by multi-homed redundant Cisco routers with over 1.0 GB per second to the Internet. International bandwidth is provided via diverse connections with BGP routing from all Data Centres to several National and International carriers.

Network connectivity

Internal core network is based on Juniper switches using their Virtual Chassis configuration with dual power supplies, backplanes, and Junos operating system. This redundant high availability network runs 10Gb/s on the backbone and provides 1 Gb/second throughput from server NIC to internet edge without any single point of failure in the network core.

Security

Security is provided via dual redundant clustered Checkpoint firewalls configured in an Active-Standby state and capable of 3Gbps throughput with full Intrusion Detection and Prevention.

Data centres

Digiweb’s data centre are powered by on-line UPS systems which have more than 90 minutes of battery life. All servers, switches and routers are supported by this unit. This ensures that the load is completely isolated from the mains source and is not dependent upon mains power in order to provide un-interrupted power to the data centre.

In addition, Digiweb has diesel generator backup units that start automatically should the power fail, and provides power to the UPS, air conditioning systems and internal office systems ensuring continuation of service in the event of an extended power failure. Digiweb can also provide geographically diverse disaster recovery and remote site fail-over options to alternate data centre facilities where required.

Digiweb’s data centres are independently alarmed and monitored via both radio frequency communication and by telephone line as a back up to the Armourguard control centre. A failure of the radio frequency ‘poll’ is considered to be an alarm. Management is notified immediately of all alarm conditions.

Backup

Critical data is backed up daily to near side disk arrays and taken off site once per week on magnetic tapes to an independent professional secure facility. Backup is facilitated using enterprise backup software from Commvault.

Air conditioning

An N+1 air conditioning system is provided such that any one air conditioning unit can fail and services are able to continue while the unit is being repaired.

Smoke detection

Smoke detection is via a Vesda LaserFOCUS detector system with sensitivity of 0.008 to 6.4% obs/ft. The system is linked to a 7x24 monitoring service with staged alert/action levels.
